It will be do or die for Samoa when they play Pacific rivals Papua New Guinea at the T20 Cricket World Cup qualifier in Oman.

They are up against it after losing to the host nation in a low scoring affair, in which the Samoans could manage just 9 for 92 off their 20 overs, with former New Zealand test star Ross Taylor joint top scorer on 22.

Oman reached their target with three overs to spare and five wickets in hand, and the result means Samoa have to beat PNG to stay alive in the tournament.

The Barramundis are looking to recover from a disastrous trip to Europe in August, when they failed to win a match, and their wicket-keeper Kiplin Doriga landed in jail on a robbery charge.

This time PNG will be strengthened by the return of batter Lega Siaka and all-rounder Gaudi Toka, but long-standing captain Assad Vala doesn’t deny that the World Cricket League tournament in Jersey was something of a nightmare.
