Colts’ Anthony Richardson Sr. Faces Marijuana Charge After Carmel Traffic Stop

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. faces a misdemeanor charge of marijuana possession in Carmel, according to court documents first reported by FOX59/CBS4.

The charge was filed Monday, Oct. 19, and comes from a traffic stop a week earlier. On Oct. 12, a Carmel officer pulled over a black 2023 Dodge Charger near Springmill Boulevard and Silver Stream Drive. The car’s registration had expired and belonged to a different vehicle.

Court documents say the officer noticed the “odor of marijuana” while walking up to the car. When asked about the smell, Richardson allegedly said he had smoked in the vehicle so he wouldn’t smoke in front of his children. He also told the officer he had a small amount of marijuana with him.

Richardson got out of the car and was handcuffed while the officer searched it. Police reported finding a small mason jar holding a substance believed to be marijuana and an open bag of THC-infused gummies. Both later tested positive for THC.

The officer also cited Richardson for the expired registration, and Richardson agreed to appear in Carmel City Court. He waived his initial hearing, which had been set for Dec. 9. Online court records show a bench trial scheduled for Jan. 4, 2027.

The Colts had not responded to FOX59/CBS4’s request for comment when its story was published.

Richardson, who played college football at Florida, was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
