Police are investigating after two people allegedly broke into a property in southern Tasmania and stole about $10,000 worth of luxury goods overnight.

Tasmania Police said they were called to the scene at Fouche Avenue in Old Beach, north of Hobart, about 1:20am after a report of two offenders “armed with a machete and what is believed to be a firearm” breaking into a house.

They said the offenders then forced the occupant of the property to open the safe, making off with what police described as “about $10,000 worth of Louis Vuitton items”.

“Investigators believe the offenders attended the scene in a VR or VS model Holden Commodore sedan with mag wheels,” Tasmania Police said.

“Police located the vehicle completely destroyed by fire about 1:45am, in Tea Tree Road, Tea Tree.“

Tasmania Police said it was believed the incident was “targeted”.

Anyone with information, or CCTV or dashcam footage from between 1am in Old Beach and 1:45am in Tea Tree, which features a VR or VS model Holden Commodore, or anyone acting suspiciously, is urged to contact police.
