One of the most famous properties on Cape May Island Under New Ownership
While most of historic Cape May maintains the Victorian Artistic Architecture, one building on Beach Avenue is a symbol of a different era. Located at 1301 Beach Avenue, the Peter Shields Inn was built almost 120 years ago in the style of Georgian Architecture.
After several decades serving as a private residential mansion, the property was reimagined as a Fine-dining restaurant and luxury boutique hotel. But after 16 years, the business will transition to new ownership.
A statement posted on social media confirmed reports and rumors that the business would be changing ownership, with Carl Messick, and his wife Megan, taking over as the new proprietors. Carl was the executive chef at Peter Shields Restaurant for a decade before leaving to start his own establishment, Grana BYOB.
The ownership change comes almost two years after Peter Shields Inn was awarded a new liquor license from Cape May City Council. Reports say that the business will continue to operate as usual through the transition of ownership.
