Train chaos on opening weekendpublished at 13:04 BST

It wouldn’t be a football season without at least a bit of train
chaos, would it?

Last night saw trains cancelled for Manchester United fans while
they were losing 2-0 against Hull City in their opener.

Today, CrossCountry said most of its routes are down because of a
power cut and services to Premier League games in Manchester and Newcastle
might be “extremely busy”, and it’s impacting fans from all tiers of
football playing today.

Bournemouth fan Reese Proctor, 22, told Newsbeat “it’s frustrating” after his journey to Manchester to watch the Cherries was disrupted at short notice.

Reese hopped in with his mate to get there but it’s added an extra two hours onto his journey to Manchester, he says, calling it “unacceptable.

“If I couldn’t drive, or have [my friend] to drive… I
wouldn’t have been able to go to the match. That would have been a waste of a
match ticket.”

As for the game… Reese is as confident in the team as he is with
the trains.

“In the nicest way possible, I love the boys, but it’s Man
City,” he said.

“I’m just here to tick off the stadium and enjoy the day
out.”
