Emergency services have been called to Arthur Vick residences at the University of Warwick after a fire broke out on Wednesday evening (19 November).

Videos seen by The Boar and shared on social media show the top floor of Arthur Vick 1 engulfed by flames, with smoke rising from the building.

At least two fire engines and a police car attended the scene of the fire, which onlookers told The Boar began around 9pm.

A room on the top floor of the block is believed to have been the source of the fire, although The Boar cannot yet confirm the cause.

The Boar understands that the fire is now under control, and affected students have been advised to head to the Junction building.

Warwick Christian Union also confirmed to The Boar that they will be handing out hot chocolate and biscuits at Junction this evening, rather than at the Chaplaincy which is usually the case after POP!

It is currently unknown whether affected students will be able to re-enter the block this evening, or where they will be temporarily housed if not.

A University spokesperson told The Boar: “Emergency services are attending a fire on campus in a residence block – Arthur Vick 1. Students have been evacuated, and the University is working with the emergency services. The accommodation team is providing support to those affected.”

This is a breaking story, and will be updated as we have more information to bring you.
