Driver fined after airborne car crashes into side of Brisbane bus

A man has been fined almost $700 after a car became wedged in the side of a bus in Brisbane’s south.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Beaudesert and Granard Roads in Rocklea at about 6:30pm on Wednesday, following reports a hatchback had become airborne and struck a Brisbane City Council bus.

Police allege the driver of a black SsangYong attempted to merge from a centre lane and turn off near the intersection.

The driver of the Yaris, travelling in the outer lane, allegedly swerved around the SsangYong before losing control and colliding into the bus police say.

The driver of the Yaris, a 45-year-old Pallara woman, was taken to hospital in shock.

The bus driver, a 66-year-old Sunnybank Hills man, did not sustain any injuries from the incident.

A Brisbane City Council spokeswoman confirmed there were no passengers on the bus at the time.

The driver of the SsangYong, a 66-year-old Durack man, has since been fined $690 and three demerit points for driving without due care and attention.
