We are tracking a disorganized system moving across the northern Gulf coast toward southeast Texas. Even though this system has a very low chance for development, this could still bring rounds of heavy rain today and tomorrow. The National Hurricane Center is giving this a 10% chance of development within the next two days.
The KHOU 11 Weather Team is issuing a Weather Impact Alert that goes into effect 11 a.m. and lasts through 5 p.m.
It is very likely that this system will remain disorganized and will not form into a tropical depression. However, unsettled weather is in store for southeast Texas for today and tomorrow.
The Storm Prediction Center has included all of southeast Texas under a Marginal Risk for flooding (1 out of 4 on the flood risk scale) for Friday. Expect ponding on roadways and isolated flooding on roadways and well-known low-lying areas. We cannot rule out a storm or two to become severe
When and where will rain be heaviest?
12:30 p.m. through 2:30 p.m.
By the afternoon hours, we will see a sea breeze frontal boundary bring coastal showers and storms inland. Expect isolated downpours and storms to begin flaring up throughout the Houston area. Expect reduced visibility on roadways and brief periods of heavy rain.
3 p.m. through 4 p.m.
We will get to the warmest part of the day by 3 p.m. Daytime warming will fuel rain and storms to become more widespread across the Houston area. This period we will have to keep an eye on rain accumulations as we could see ponding on roadways and isolated flooding in some locations. Be on the lookout for reduced visibility on roadways and an isolated storm to become severe. We cannot rule out severe storms to have high winds, hail, and isolated spin-ups.
5 p.m. through 7 p.m.
Expect storms to taper off after 5 p.m. with rain becoming isolated. This is the time we will lose daytime heating causing storms to dissipate for the evening and overnight.
Another round of afternoon showers and storms will be in the picture for Saturday with heavy downpours and a few strong storms.
