BALTIMORE (WBFF) — A mother and father were both arrested in connection with the death of their two-month-old baby, according to Baltimore police.
Katerin Monzon-Alvarado, 21, and Oscar Pineda, also 21, face charges including first- and second-degree child abuse, first- and second-degree assault, and reckless endangerment, police reported on Friday.
On September 9, around 1:08 a.m., police responded to Harbor Hospital following reports of an infant’s death.
Upon arrival, officers learned that two-month-old Aida Alvarado had recently been pronounced dead by medical staff.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner then responded to conduct an autopsy.
Initial findings indicated that the baby had sustained trauma to her body, prompting homicide detectives to investigate at the infant’s home.
The parents were taken into custody and interviewed by authorities.
After consulting with the state’s attorney’s office, police stated that both parents were criminally charged.
Police reported that additional homicide charges may arise depending on the outcome of the autopsy report.
The parents are currently being held at Central Booking.
