People Love McDonald’s New Burger — But There’s a Catch originally appeared on Parade.
McDonald’s continued its recent obsession with innovation when it introduced a new burger this summer. Called the Big Arch, it’s an even more epic undertaking than the chain’s signature Big Mac. This burger has two quarter-pound patties, three slices of cheese, lettuce, pickles, and onions—of both the fresh and crispy varieties. The bun is also coated with a new secret sauce.
So far, McDonald’s customers seem to be enjoying the new behemoth of a burger. “It sort of tastes like a Quarter Pounder with Big Mac sauce,” YouTuber Greg’s Kitchen said in his review. A Redditor wrote that despite being “really messy,” it was still “the nicest thing I’ve had at McDonald’s.”
Despite the satisfied customers, you most likely won’t be able to go down to your local McDonald’s and try one yourself. That’s because the Big Arch is only currently available in international markets—it’s not sold anywhere in the United States.
If you find yourself in Ireland, the U.K., France, or Australia, just to name a few places, you’ll be able to get your hands on the saucy new double-decker burger. That hasn’t stop Americans from pleading McDonald’s to bring the burger to its homeland.
“That burger looks absolutely massive compared to what’s here in the US McDonald’s,” someone wrote on the same aforementioned Reddit thread. “I just moved…The (US) Big Mac seems about 60% the size of the Big Arch.” Another person replied, “As an American all I can say when I see this burger is, we’re not number 1.”
Believe it or not, there’s one McDonald’s location in Chicago that does sell some international menu items not available anywhere else in the States. It’s on the ground floor of McDonald’s world headquarters.
