The French Open is set to begin on the 25th of May, as ATP and WTA stars get set to take centre stage in Paris.

The men’s draw at Roland Garros has been announced, with defending champion Carlos Alcaraz entering as the second seed.

World number one, Jannik Sinner, is the first seed and will face Arthur Rinderknech in the opening round.

The world’s two best players are in hot form, following their impressive Italian Open campaigns, where ultimately, Alcaraz beat Sinner in the Rome final.

With another final between the Italian and the Spaniard potentially on the cards at Roland Garros, tennis legend Andy Roddick had his say on how the tournament will play out in the French capital.

Andy Roddick says people forget how close Jannik Sinner was at Roland Garros last year

Speaking with sports journalist John Wertheim on the Served Podcast, Roddick said: “I have a Sinner vs Alcaraz final. Alcaraz wins.”

Wertheim replied: “I think that Rome final looms large. These guys have won each of the last five majors. But they have never played each other so this would be their first major final.”

Roddick said of the world number one: “People forget how close Jannik Sinner was to winning Roland Garros last year.”

“He had Zverev in the final and was two sets to one up, and Carlos was hanging on in that fourth set and then was able to turn it.”

“Sinner is really good on clay. It’s one of those things where [people are like] it’s not his best surface, but I’m like he’s still top three in the world!”

Jannik Sinner’s near miss in the Roland Garros semi-final last year

Sinner tore through his draw at Roland Garros in 2024, dropping just one set en route to the semi-final.

He was defeated at the final four stage by Alcaraz, but wasn’t dismantled by any means.

The three-time Grand Slam champion got off to a hot start in the semi-final, winning the first set 6-2. Alcaraz immediately replied to level the match 1-1.

Sinner then went even closer, taking the third set 6-3 to go within six games of making his second major final of the year.

Alcaraz responded again, however, putting on an incredible display of clay-court tennis to take the next two sets 6-4, 6-3 to reach the French Open final.
