Heavy rain and thundery showers are forecast for the city this week
Thunder is set to hit Liverpool later this week after temperatures soared to 29 degrees over the bank holiday.
The city was hotter than Ibiza on Monday as people headed to the waterfront and beaches across the region to soak up the sun. It remains sunny today, although temperatures have dropped slightly to 22 degrees with a moderate breeze.
According to the latest forecast from BBC Weather, thundery showers are on their way to Liverpool on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, accompanied by heavy rain at times.
The forecast shows thunder could hit Liverpool at 11am on Wednesday before returning on Thursday afternoon and into the evening. Friday’s forecast also shows thundery showers just after lunchtime and heavy rain is expected.
The latest BBC forecast for Merseyside said: “Tonight, variable amounts of cloud can be expected, allowing for frequent clear spells. It should remain mostly dry, however the odd shower cannot be ruled out.
“Tomorrow, early sunshine with just the odd patch of cloud. In the late morning, outbreaks of rain, some heavy, are expected to push in from the west. A risk of thunder. Some late sunshine is expected.
“On Thursday, there will be a mixture of sunny spells, variable cloud and showers, possibly heavy at times. Friday is set to have sunny spells and a few lingering showers. Saturday will see widespread rain move in from the south-west, becoming locally heavy at times. Trending cooler.”
The Met Office’s forecast doesn’t currently show thunder for the city but predicts torrential rain on Wednesday.
The Met Office forecast for the North West for Wednesday said: “A bright start but cloud will soon thicken from the west. Becoming breezy as a band of persistent, sometimes heavy rain passes eastwards. Some late sunshine to end the day. Maximum temperature 20 °C.”
The outlook for Thursday to Saturday said: “Low pressure will dominate the weather this week bringing further showers or longer spells of rain. Remaining rather breezy with temperatures near average, although some chilly nights for a few.”
