John Cena’s final WWE opponent has finally been revealed. Kind of.
WWE announced Saturday that a 16-man tournament will unfold over the next six weeks to determine who gets the honor of standing across Cena for his farewell match on the Dec. 13 edition of WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event.

The tournament field will be composed of talent from “WWE Raw” and “WWE SmackDown,” as well as NXT and “maybe even some faces who don’t even work here,” Cena revealed in a pre-recorded promo.
The Miz, Rusev, Solo Sikoa, Sheamus, LA Knight, Drew McIntyre, Penta, Bronson Reed, Gunther and Dominik Mysterio were among the wresters featured in the Cena promotional package, although that doesn’t necessarily confirm their participation in the tournament.

Cena’s retirement tour has been a primary storyline for WWE throughout 2025. The 48-year-old future Hall of Famer broke the promotion’s all-time record by becoming a 17-time WWE world champion at WrestleMania 41 and infamously turned heel before pivoting back to his usual babyface character.
Cena has just four dates left on his 2025 schedule: Nov. 10 on “WWE Raw” in Boston, Nov. 17 on “WWE Raw” in New York, Nov. 29 on Survivor Series: WarGames in San Diego, and Dec. 13 for his retirement match against the tournament winner on Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington D.C.
