Apple Studios has acquired the intellectual property rights for Severance in a major deal that could accelerate franchise expansion plans. The third season of the Emmy-winning drama is currently in development, but it will now be produced as an “Innie” (in-house) as Apple has reportedly taken full ownership of the show in a $70 million pact with Fifth Season, the producer of the first two seasons. The two companies haven’t severed ties completely, as the external partner remains onboard as an executive producer, but it is a major step that could allow Apple to make better – and potentially quicker – decisions about the show’s future.
