Major concerns have been raised around the final empty three units at the multi-million pound complex, just off the A12, but Colchester Council has repeatedly insisted “healthy discussions” have been ongoing.
Now, the leisure park has received a major boost after it was confirmed Vue would open a new nine-screen cinema.
The development was dealt a major blow in October last year when Cineworld pulled out of plans to open due to the firm’s financial struggles.
It is unclear when Vue, which boasts cinemas up and down the country, will open and join the likes of Hollywood Bowl, Slim Chickens, Taste of Italy, Wendy’s, and Greggs already operating on the site.
In a social media post, shared in “error” by Colchester Council on Sunday, the plans for Vue to open were revealed.
The now-deleted Facebook post said: “We’re thrilled to announce a brand new Vue cinema is coming to Colchester.
“The lease has been signed and we’re excited to confirm that Vue will be the cinema operator taking on the Northern Gateway unit.
“A new nine-screen Vue cinema is now set for the site.
“This news follows Cineworld’s withdrawal from the site last year due to their financial difficulties and restructuring.
“Vue is a multi-award-winning cinema chain and part of the largest cinema group in Europe.
“We’re absolutely delighted to welcome them to Colchester.”
Following the accidental announcement on Facebook, Colchester Council stated it was unable to provide further information but was “excited about future opportunities”.
A spokesman said: “A post regarding a potential business development at the Leisure Park was shared on social media in error.
“While we are excited about future opportunities, we are not in a position to comment further at this time.
“We appreciate your understanding.”
