Extreme heat through the weekend

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) -Cloudy skies and early storms helped temporarily break the oppressive heat on Thursday, but the pause will be short-lived. As sunshine returns, Friday-Sunday will feature high temps in the middle 90s and heat index values at 110 or greater. The dangerous combination of heat and humidity means you need to monitor for signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. If you have cramping, headache, nausea, rapid heart rate while outdoors, you should get into shade or air conditioning and drink plenty of water to restore your body’s ability to cool itself.

The brutal heat continues through the weekend, and Saturday & Sunday may turn out to be the hottest days of the year so far with highs in the upper 90s. The highest temperature thus far has been 96-degrees. A cold front approaches the Tri-State late Sunday and will trigger showers and storms and also deliver cooler and drier air to break the heat wave for the start of next week.
