PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A surge of moisture out of the Gulf of California into southwest and central Arizona is a signal for a possible uptick in thunderstorms statewide.
A First Alert Weather Day is underway for a severe thunderstorm watch that was issued for the Phoenix Metro area and southern Arizona until 11 p.m. on Wednesday.
Just after 9 p.m., a dust storm warning was issued for a majority of the East Valley until 10:15 p.m.
The National Weather Service has issued a blowing dust advisory for the Buckeye/Avondale, South Mountain/Ahwatukee and Southeast Valley/Queen Creek areas from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
We don’t expect any severe weather with these storms and coverage will be minimal. But we’ll also have a chance for nighttime storms Thursday night.
The First Alert Weather Days for extreme heat continue until Sunday evening. We’re forecasting highs in the 110-114 range.
The National Weather Service has also followed suit and extended their extreme heat warning until Sunday.
About the only thing that could interrupt this run of potentially deadly heat would be a huge breakout of monsoon storms, something we’re currently not seeing on any of our forecast maps.
