A new movie set in Oregon during the height of the Great Depression will begin filming this summer.

“The Weight” will star Ethan Hawke, Russell Crowe and Julia Jones, and will be set in Oregon in 1933.

Hawke will play Samuel Murphy, a war veteran who finds himself as the sole guardian of his daughter, Penny. When Samuel is arrested and sent to a work camp run by ruthless warden Clancy (Crowe), he agrees to take on Clancy’s dangerous plan to smuggle gold across the Oregon wilderness to be with his daughter again.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “The Weight” will be directed by Padraic McKinley, known for his work on TV series like “Kingdom,” “Debris” and “The Good Lord Bird.”

The script is written by Shelby Gaines, Matthew Chapman and Matthew Booi, and the original story was written by Booi and Leo Scherman, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

While “The Weight” is set in Oregon, principal photography for the film will begin in Bavaria this summer, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
