New York Liberty vs. Las Vegas Aces: WNBA Odds, Preview and Prediction

Of course, Las Vegas owns three of those titles. The reigning-champion Aces started the second half of their season shooting 58% from the floor in a 98-83 victory over expansion Portland on Tuesday. A’ja Wilson had 28 points and 14 rebounds, Jackie Young added 25 points and Chelsea Gray contributed 17 points and seven assists as the Aces’ Big Three were clicking throughout.

Meanwhile, Breanna Stewart had 29 points and seven assists, while Sabrina Ionescu made five three-pointers and tallied 27 points as the Liberty won their third straight with a 113-109 triumph at the Los Angeles Sparks on Monday.

This is the third meeting between the teams this season. New York won twice in June, including a 93-85 Commissioner’s Cup championship game victory at home at the end of the month.

The Aces are -3.5 favourites at home this evening with a -155 money line, while the Liberty’s money line is at +130. The over/under for this contest is 195.5. The Liberty have played to the over in eight of their last nine.

New York covered in both June victories over the Aces, but the Liberty are just 3-6 against the spread in their last nine games. Las Vegas is 4-5 against the spread and played to the over in six of its last nine games.

Ionescu is starting to feel it. The four-time All-Star has battled injuries throughout the season and is averaging 15.6 points in 16 games. However, she is going for 23.7 points in her last six contests. Ionescu has tallied 21 or more points in six of her last nine games.

It’s good that she’s heating up because several of the Liberty’s support players are hurting. Satou Sabally, Leonie Fiebich and Marine Johannes are averaging nearly 30 points a game combined and are valuable in both reserve and spot-start roles. However, none of them played against Los Angeles on Tuesday, although Fiebich is the only one expected out for a prolonged period.   

Las Vegas Aces

Wilson is the league’s only four-time MVP, and if she has her way, she will soon become the league’s first five-time winner. WNBA controversies and gossip notwithstanding, Wilson is a dominant force still well within her prime. She leads the league in scoring and blocks and is third in rebounding. 

It doesn’t hurt that she is accompanied by two of the league’s best distributors in Gray and Young, who are fourth and fifth in the WNBA in assists, respectively.

Las Vegas is just 4-3 in its last seven games, but as long as that trio remains healthy, there’s no point naming any other team as the upcoming playoff favourites. That would be a waste of time. 

WNBA Prediction: Who will win Liberty vs. Aces?

New York is 8-2 straight up and 6-3-1 against the spread in its last 10 against the Aces. Stewart, Ionescu and company are one of the rare teams that consistently push Wilson and Las Vegas.

That should be no different tonight, but look for the Aces to lock in at home. Take them to get their first win against the Liberty this season, 98-92.
