With heavy hearts, we acknowledge the passing of John Henry Huggins, known affectionately to many as Jay, on Monday, October 19, 2026. Born on August 13, 1967 in Hartsville, SC, Jay made his home in Camden, South Carolina, where he has left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Although Jay was faced with a life full of health issues, he never complained and multiple times was remembered to say, “If what I am going through brings one person closer to Christ, then its worth it.  So then what I go through is nothing in comparison to what Christ went through for me”.

Jay was a man of simple pleasures; he loved the great outdoors and found joy in fishing, hunting, and golf. An avid fan of the Clemson Tigers, he savored the thrill of a good football game. Yet, it was in his service to others that Jay’s spirit truly shone. A faithful member of Malvern Hill Baptist Church, he served as a Deacon and found purpose in the children’s ministry. As Albert Einstein once said, “Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile,” and Jay lived this philosophy to the fullest. With a servant’s heart, he was always ready to lend a hand, whether it was through his work at DuPont, his penchant for handyman tasks, or simply being there for a friend in need.

Jay is survived by his beloved wife, Marty Ann Barkley Huggins; his loving mother, Emmie Sue Jordan Baird of Camden; sisters, Suzanne Brownfield (Tommy) of Camden and Tina Rollins (Lee) of Bishopville; brothers, Tony Baird of Hartsville and Timmy Baird (Janet) of Bishopville; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Bobby Baird.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 22, 2026 from 2-3 p.m. at Malvern Hill Baptist Church, 1514 Malvern Hill Drive, Camden, South Carolina, 29020. A celebration of Life Service will be held in the church at 3:00 p.m. followed by burial in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Brent Cole, Austin Hightower, Dean Catoe, Evan Arthur, Luke Bragg, Randy Johnson, and Jimmy Baird.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Malvern Hill Baptist Church Building Fund.
