Beth Eames, 24, studied engineering at St Hilda’s College, Oxford, before completing a DPhil in Mechanical Engineering. She recently began working as a mechanical engineering consultant in the health technology sector.

The talented sewer has battled through 10 weeks of challenges to secure a place in the final of the show’s 12th series, which airs on BBC One at 8pm on Tuesday, September 15.

Throughout the competition, contestants have taken on the programme’s trademark trio of tasks: a pattern challenge, a transformation challenge and a made-to-measure challenge.

New themes introduced this year included Colours and Prints, Mexico, Literary Icons, Wardrobe Heroes and British Summertime Week.

Among the more unusual tests was a challenge requiring competitors to transform barbecue aprons into practical bags, while other episodes drew inspiration from literature, fashion staples and international culture.

Dr Eames has emerged as one of the strongest contestants, winning two Garment of the Week awards and impressing judges Patrick Grant and Esme Young throughout the series.

In the semi-final, she earned praise for a green plant-based leather biker jacket, with the judges highlighting the quality of her topstitching and sleeve insertion.

She first discovered a love of sewing as a teenager and has spoken previously about adapting clothes to suit her needs while living with scoliosis.

Dr Eames will compete against Anna, from North Yorkshire, and Emma Morwood, a classical soprano from Scotland, for the title.

In a post celebrating her achievement on Facebook, St Hilda’s College said the Sewing Bee had been “an unforgettable experience”, teaching her about sewing, television production and performing under pressure.
