Fans of Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer’s supernatural thriller What Lies Beneath, take note. The classic feature helmed by Robert Zemeckis can be turned into a TV show, as per producer Mark Johnson, who is well known for producing features like The Chronicles of Narnia trilogy, Rain Man, The Notebook and more.

Over the years, we have seen a trend of turning iconic movies into series like Mr and Mrs Smith, Snowpiercer, Fatal Attraction among others. They are always a hit or miss, depending upon how close or distant the new series is from the source material. In a new interview with Deadline Johnson shared his plans for turning What Lies Beneath into a horror series. He revealed:

“We’re very excited about the idea of maybe doing a television show — I’m not sure I should say this but I’m going to — our movie What Lies Beneath, that could lend itself to a very good, perhaps limited, perhaps not, TV show.”

Turning the movie into a long form series (even in a limited series format) sounds like a great idea, given fans usually love to watch horror at home. Furthermore, given the thrilling story, its supernatural horror elements and overarching erotic thriller tone would lend itself brilliantly on small screen keeping viewers glued to their seats.

When Claire probes more it becomes clear that this apparition will not be dismissed and has come back for the couple.

The movie got mixed reviews but was a commercial success earning $291.4 million worldwide on a budget of $100 million. Furthermore, Pfeiffer got a lot of praise for her performance while Ford is widely remembered for his villainous turn garnering the movie got several accolades. The movie has an illustrious cast that makes it even better. Diana Scarwid, Joe Morton, James Remar, Miranda Otto, Wendy Crewson – all have given powerpacked performances. The movie has a 48 percent Rotten Tomatoes rating but deserves much better one. If the series at all comes to fruition, fans will be in for a supernatural ride.
