Friday’s Betfred Super League predictions

Friday’s meeting between Warrington Wolves and Hull Kingston Rovers is a dress rehearsal for next month’s Challenge Cup final and the Robins should be the team to put on a show.

The two sides will need to put Wembley’s clash to one side for Friday’s Super League match, and the Robins will be aiming to maintain their two-point advantage at the top of the table.

Warrington are already ten points and eight places behind Willie Peters’ men, and it is their inconsistent performances that have put them in that position.

Having beaten Leigh Leopards 21-14 to reach the Challenge Cup final two weeks ago, the Wire were then embarrassed last week as they lost 40-10 to Wakefield Trinity.

This week, they will be without forwards James Harrison, Paul Vaughan and Zane Musgrove and their absence will be hard felt through the middle of the park. Warrington have conceded 254 points this season and their vulnerability in defence looks set to be exposed once again by the ruthless Robins.

Hull KR have scored 30 tries in five matches, with 14 of those coming inside the last 20 minutes. They have been the fittest and most clinical team in the competition and Warrington look likely to be the latest team to fall short against them.

Elsewhere in Super League, Huddersfield Giants host St Helens as they search for just their second win of the season.

Luke Robinson’s troops were hammered 34-0 by Hull KR last weekend, while St Helens beat Catalans Dragons 40-0 at home.

Ordinarily, a routine win for Saints would be the first suggestion, but Paul Wellens’ team have struggled to string performances together at times this season.

Huddersfield’s defeat to Hull KR suggests they were outclassed, but they were only 4-0 down against the Robins until the 59th minute before fatigue kicked in. If they can produce another solid display in defence, the Giants have a forward pack that can give St Helens some issues on home soil.
